چکیده
Abstract Background While obesity is associated with cardiovascular mortality and morbidity, patients higher body mass index (BMI) may have better outcomes post-percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). This “obesity paradox” controversial needs clarification. Purpose We aimed to investigate the relationship between BMI post-PCI in an Asian cohort. Methods A retrospective cohort study was performed on consecutive who underwent semi-urgent PCI for non-ST elevation myocardial infraction or unstable angina, elective stable angina from January 2014 December 2015 a tertiary centre. Patients were underweight (BMI <18.5), normal weight 18.5–22.9), overweight 23–24.9), pre-obese 25–29.9) obese ≥30), according WHO classification. The primary endpoint all-cause mortality. secondary subsequent events of stroke transient ischemic attack, infarction (MI) congestive cardiac failure (CCF). Results 1,610 followed up 3.71 (±0.97) years, 19.7% female mean age 62.1 years (Table 1). showed U-shaped incidence death (p<0.001), MI (p=0.005), CCF (p<0.001) (Figure 1A), which also shown Kaplan Meier analysis (Figures 1B-E). With reference multivariable Cox analysis, (adjusted HR 0.64, 95% CI 0.42–0.97) 0.55, 0.38–0.80) had lower Underweight risk 2.12, 1.01–4.46), while 0.56, 0.34–0.92) compared patients. (underweight: adjusted 3.05, 1.45–6.42; obese: 1.86, 1.03–3.35) Conclusion at upper extremes demonstrated mortality, post-PCI. Funding Acknowledgement Type funding sources: None.

متن کاملAssociation of body mass index with major cardiovascular events and with mortality after percutaneous coronary intervention.
BACKGROUND Conflicting data exist regarding the relation between body mass index (BMI) and cardiovascular events and mortality after percutaneous coronary intervention. METHODS AND RESULTS We performed pooled analyses to evaluate the association between BMI (weight in kilograms divided by the square of the height in meters) and the risks of major cardiovascular events (defined as death from c...

However, recent studies have suggested a paradoxical relationship between obesity and clinical outcomes in certain subsets of patients. Data from percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) registries suggest that the very lean and the very obese have an increased risk of in-hospital complications and short-term mortality.6 1. Background and Aims: Bilirubin has been considered an antioxidant that protects against atherosclerosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship of serum bilirubin level with the severity and complexity of coronary artery disease (CAD) and long-term outcome in the patients undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
